Personal Profile

Cheng graduated from Nanjing University with the BS and MS degrees of Polymer Science and Engineering (1997), Materials Physics and Chemistry (1999). He also obtained the MS and Ph.D. degrees of Electrical Engineering (2002) and Materials (Solid-State Science, 2004) from Electrical Engineering Department and Materials Research Institute, Pennsylvania State University, USA. After studying and working for a long while at NUS/IMRE, PSU/MRI, Bell Labs/Johns Hopkins University, DOE Battelle-PNNL, and Nanjing Tech/IAM, he is now doing some applied basic research and education within a non-profit academic institution of Soochow University concerning imaterials research and technologies for advanced power sources and intelligent transducers.  

     

Research Interests

1)Wearable energy materials and devices, nanocomposite materials physics and chemistry for solid-state electrolyte high-capacity flexible batteries & fuel cells, thin-film high-temperature dielectric energy storage capacitors and 5G energy antenna, and flexible wearable electrical / electrochemical energy conversion & storage materials and devices for compact powers. 

2)Flexible hybrid electronic/photoelectronic materials, devices and micro-nano manufacturing for 2D /molecular perovskites and heterostructured optoelectronic materials, molecular /2D and polymeric nanocomposite relaxor ferroelectrics, flexible piezoelectric piezoelectrets / electroacoustic acousto-optic transduction, electrocaloric and optical / IR radiation solid-state cooling, intelligent wearable thin-films, fibers and E-textiles.

1> Polar Electroactive Materials Research & Flexible Devices Featuring Polarization, Energy and Information Exchange Processes: Focusing on the key scientific issues of effective charge recombination or separation, effective energy transfer and conversion in the process of flexible photoelectronic energy conversion / storage materials and devices, and using polarizable    molecular and multi-scale design coupled with the electrical polarization modulation and strengthening principle from micro-nano structures, to develop the key technologies of efficient and stable polar energy materials and flexible wearable smart devices.
